What is UDISE Code?

A UDISE code is an 11-digit unique number that every school in India gets when it registers with the education system. The full form is Unified District Information System for Education Code.

Think of UDISE code like an Aadhaar card for schools. Just like your Aadhaar has 12 digits and is unique to you, a UDISE code has 11 digits and is unique to each school.

UDISE Code Structure – How the System Divides the 11 Digits

The system divides the 11-digit UDISE code into 5 parts. Each part tells you something about the school's location:

Example: UDISE Code 09 24 06 012 03 means:

• 09 → Uttar Pradesh (State)
• 24 → District code 24 within UP
• 06 → Block code 06 in that district
• 012 → Cluster number 012
• 03 → 3rd school registered in that cluster

What Does Each Part of UDISE Code Tell Us?

The UDISE code is not just a random number—it represents a structured code that tells where the school is located in the administrative hierarchy:

• State Code (2 digits): Identifies which state. All schools in one state start with the same 2 digits.
• District Code (2 digits): Identifies the district within the state. Each district has a unique 2-digit code.
• Block Code (2 digits): The administrative block within the district. Blocks are sub-divisions of districts.
• Cluster Code (3 digits): The cluster is a group of nearby schools. Each block has multiple clusters.
• School Code (2 digits): The serial number of the school within the cluster. Can be 01 to 99.

How the Department Assigns the UDISE Code to New Schools

1. A new school applies for government recognition
2. District Education Officer reviews the application
3. Once the officer approves, the District MIS Officer registers the school in the UDISE+ portal
4. The system automatically assigns the next available code in the correct block and cluster
5. The school receives its 11-digit UDISE code
6. Government departments use this code for all future records

How to Verify a UDISE Code

1. Go to udiseplus.gov.in/udisereport/
2. Find the school search section
3. Enter the 11-digit UDISE code
4. If the code is valid, the school's name and address appear
5. If nothing appears or an error shows, you may have entered the wrong code, or the school has not registered

Common Questions About UDISE Code

• Can a school have two UDISE codes? No. Each school should have only one UDISE code. Duplicates are errors that the office must correct.
• Is UDISE code public information? Yes. The government portal and report module make UDISE codes publicly available.
• Does a UDISE code expire? No. A UDISE code does not expire. It remains valid as long as the school operates.
• Is UDISE code needed for student Aadhaar enrollment? Yes. When a student enrolls in a school and the operator registers them in UDISE+, the system includes their UDISE code as part of their education record.
